One of my favorite things about photography is capturing meaning through minutiae, so it makes sense that I went there for my first photo. If you didn't guess, this groovy cat guards my and my husband's wedding rings when we aren't wearing them.
I turned 36 today, but I sure as hell don't feel 36. At the same time, my husband, Patrick, and I have been married for 10 years and lived what seems like entire lifetimes in that decade. We've been through career changes, graduate school, mental health struggles, several moves across the country, and more in that time, and we are only stronger for it.
This cat has been with us for the majority of our married years, and he has been through hell and back. The crack in his porcelain tail is proof. He'd tell you that he got his battle scar in an epic cat fight that he won, but the simple truth is that I dropped him one day. Admittedly, his story is better. He spends most of his days enjoying the view of our suburban L.A. landscape and marvels at the lack of clouds, snow, and even rain. But when he's on duty, he guards our rings with his life. He knows his job is important and he takes it seriously.
My day was a nice balance of work and play. After I fulfilled some orders for my business, Patrick and I ate way too much Mexican food and drank delicious margaritas. Like always, we did it together, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
