Ever been to a dueling piano bar? It was my first time tonight, but I can assure you it won't be the last. That's how much fun I had.
It works like this: Two piano players take the stage. One starts playing a song. At any given time, a member of the audience can give the other piano player some $$ to play a different song. Should someone else want to stop that song and play something else, they have to give even more $$, and this goes on until a song completes. Rinse, repeat.
Watching the piano players in action is like magic. They can play anything upon request. They don't get any prep time or rehearsal — they just do it. They clearly have a vast body of musical knowledge that spans all styles of music, and probably a lifetime of piano playing experience. I was in awe of their level of talent.
If you're wondering, my request was "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke, and yes, they played it. The reason why is a little strange: A few months ago, I had a dream where I sang this song during karaoke at a sci-fi convention of some sort. Possibly Phoenix ComiCon. This is strange/hilarious because before this dream, I never heard this song and anybody who knows me knows that it takes several drinks before I will sing in front of anyone. But it definitely happened in a dream, and a YouTube search later, I matched the song to the lyrics. I memorized it so if I'm ever crazy enough to sing karaoke, I've got "my" song ready.
