When all goes right, the experience of hopping in the air from one location to another hundreds or even thousands of miles away in a matter of hours is miraculous. When it goes wrong, it can be a hellish pain in the ass.
I don't have the best luck with flying. More than half of the flights I have taken in my life have been delayed either due to weather or mechanical error. Today was such an occasion. My 6 a.m. flight from Ontario to Salt Lake was delayed an hour and a half due to the flight computer shitting the bed, which meant that I missed my connecting flight to Casper, where I will be visiting friends and family for a few days. The good news was that they had another flight to Casper leaving in the afternoon. The bad news was that I had several hours to kill at the SLC Airport before that happened.
Lifeless due to a 3 a.m. wakeup call, I drank way too much coffee at various kiosks as I walked through the airport and admired overpriced Utah/SLC merch I had no intention of buying. Eventually I did get to Casper, where I reunited with family over a big plate of Mexican food, then promptly collapsed. More fun tomorrow.
