The big event of today was a barbecue with my family. Everyone got together at my granny's house, feasted on a smorgasbord of food, and then remained around the table, talking, late into the night. It was the usual mix of new things with a "greatest hits" medley of the same stories we've all heard countless times before, but never mind hearing again. It was a grand ol' time. :)
I took this photo in particular for two reasons: 1) I gave my grandma that coaster of the Fargo Theatre sometime while I lived in Fargo, ND. She grew up in that area, so she loves things that remind her of it. 2) That pretty rose is from a rose bush my grandfather planted in the year when he battled lung cancer. It took his life ten years ago. Even though he's gone, the roses have thrived. Seeing that was a sweet reminder that he is always around in spirit no matter how much time goes by. And really, that is the best we can all hope for: that we leave something behind that endures long after we're gone.
